Nutmeg Grater/Grinder

A nutmeg grater is a great tool in the kitchen if you love the flavor of freshly grated nutmeg. As a bonus, they tend to often have a dual purpose and can be used to grate garlic (though many people still love having a garlic press), chocolate, ginger, cinnamon, and much, much, more.

When we decided to review nutmeg graters, it was a bit of a challenge to determine what exactly would make the perfect tool that wouldn’t be a cumbersome kitchen gadget that wouldn’t be yet another one to sit in a drawer collecting dust. After all, many times when a product has a specific use, sometimes that use can be somewhat limited when cooking and preparing food. We decided to take a look at both graters and nutmeg grinders and decide which ones would be the most useful in any kitchen.

So What Did We Find?

StarFrit Nutmeg Grinder

This stylish little gadget offers not only a tool for grinding nutmeg, but also a handy way to store it once you’ve ground it. This is perfect for those who would like to grind a lot at once or want to have a little on hand without having to grind it every single time. Click Here to Learn More.

Microplane Grater

Our next favorite one is the Microplane Grater. Like the one pictured above, it also contains room to store the nuts as well as excess powder. It’s also very compact, which is always useful. It doesn’t perform so well on other spices we’ve tried, but we were very happy with it for nutmeg.

Lastly, another one worth mentioning is a grate plate, which is basically a plate which has sharp teeth for grating various foods. These work pretty well for nutmeg, and if you plan on giving your grater a dual purpose use for things such as ginger or garlic, then this one is usually a pretty safe bet.

This grater pictured is a low cost solution that has a number of diverse uses in the kitchen. We like the 3.5 inch size, but there is also a 6.5 inch one as well if you want to use it for other, larger items. See More.

So there you have it, three nifty little nutmeg graters and grinders for you to try and check out and tell us what YOU think of them! What do you like to use freshly ground nutmeg for? Share it with us in the comments below.
