Ninja Master Prep Blender/Food Proccessor Review

After our old blender finally bit the dust last night we decided to give the Ninja Blender a try (Officially called the Ninja Master Prep) and so far we find it’s a pretty good, multi-purpose low-end blender. It’s the best blender you can find for under $50, that’s for sure!

A really good blender that is durable and lasts a lifetime that can handle almost any chopping, juicing, and other types of things will cost you around $350-$400. That’s a lot of money for a blender, especially when you consider you could buy an oven or even a dishwasher for the same price! However, if you’re someone like me who loves your blender, a good one is indispensable.

Not wanting to shell out $400 on a blender, I decided to get a cheap and affordable one to purchase and review on the site, since most people when buying a blender don’t really need an expensive one if they’re only going to use it a few times a year or find that kind of money for a kitchen gadget to be a little too much.

So, I decided to give it a try, first with making smoothies. I choose to use frozen peaches and frozen blackberries and some white cranberry juice. Tasty! I had to add a lot more liquid that I’m used to with my old blender, since it really fluffed up the peaches, but I didn’t mind, especially when you consider that my old one couldn’t even puree frozen peaches. (I always had to thaw them out first, or have big frozen peach lumps). It took about 3 minutes of consistent pulsing, but all in all I was done and it seemed like it did a pretty good job of even getting the blackberry seeds that are so small they can be hard to chop. I wouldn’t say it is a good juicer, but for anything with a smoothie, shake, or frosty consistency, this machine is AWESOME! (I had never had anything in my “real blender” that actually turned out like a smoothie is supposed to be).

Next, we tried some simple chopping. Worked beautifully on the onion, tomato, and nuts we tried. Rather than giving you pieces all different sizes, they were nice and consistent.

Clean up was a breeze, I wiped off the spout of the pitcher with a paper towel, put in about 2 cups of soapy water, snap the lid & power button on and and it cleans itself! There were no rings or washers to clean, so that’s nice.

I found the pitcher was drip free, which is really nice when you are pouring out smoothies! The lid only fits one way, so that’s not too hard to figure out. It also comes with plastic lids, so if you make a lot of something, you can just transfer it from the counter to the fridge – that’s always nice too!

Now, so far I can’t really tell any major cons with this machine just yet – main one is that I realize it is made out of plastic, and so probably not durable. However, I like that it is made out of plastic, because glass is all too easy to drop and break or chip or you go from cold to hot and next thing you know it just shatters everywhere. I know that’s not going to happen with a plastic jar!

I had a little trouble getting the blade shaft to align with the hole in the top of the lid, but after a few uses I didn’t struggle with it anymore, it just slipped right on the way I thought it would/should. Before pouring anything out of the blender, make sure you remove the blades so they don’t fall out – unlike other blenders the blades are not attached to the bottom of the base. This is really nice for cleaning, because you can clean those hard to reach spots!

There were a few negative reviews on this blender, but I have to attribute them to people not knowing how to use a blender correctly. This blender you need to pulse, so you will not want to hold it down for more than 10-15 seconds without pausing, otherwise it could cause some issues. I think the pulsing is what helps it to blend so nice and evenly in addition to the dual blade action. You should also make sure you always have lots of liquid when blending, and if not, use the food processor blades.

All in all, for less than $50 it’s a pretty good blender/food processor. I’m glad I got it, and can’t wait to use it again! Who’s hungry?
